Privacy and Data Protection

Who We Are

Invest in ME Research is a UK registered charity (Charity No. 1153730) and the data controller responsible for your personal data. You can contact us at info@investinme.org or by post at PO Box 561, Eastleigh, Hampshire SO50 0GQ.

What Data We Collect

When you register for one of our events, we collect the personal information you provide in the registration form. This may include your name, email address, institutional affiliation, professional role, and research interests.

When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your name and email address.

When you use our website, standard server logs may record your IP address and browser information. We do not use tracking cookies beyond those strictly necessary for the website to function.

Why We Collect It and Our Lawful Basis

We collect registration data to administer your participation in our events and to communicate with you regarding them. Our lawful basis for this processing is legitimate interests — specifically, the legitimate interest of a research charity in organising and administering its scientific events.

We collect newsletter subscription data on the basis of your consent. You may withdraw that consent at any time by unsubscribing via the link in any newsletter email.

Who We Share Your Data With

Your registration data is processed via Zoho, our registration form provider, which acts as a data processor on our behalf. Zoho processes data in accordance with GDPR. We do not sell, rent, or otherwise share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

For event administration purposes, your name and institutional affiliation may be shared with the event venue and, where relevant, with co-organising bodies such as the European ME Research Group (EMERG). Your data will not be shared beyond what is necessary for these purposes.

Newsletter subscriptions are managed via Mailchimp. Where data is processed by third-party services such as Zoho or Mailchimp, it may be transferred outside the UK or European Economic Area. Where this occurs, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with UK GDPR requirements.

How Long We Keep Your Data

Registration data is retained for a period of three years following the event, after which it is securely deleted. Newsletter subscription data is retained for as long as you remain subscribed.

Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate data, to request deletion of your data, to object to or restrict our processing of your data, and to request a copy of your data in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at info@investinme.org. We will respond within one calendar month.
